Sustainable Handbags

"So what makes a bag sustainable?

While there’s not a set definition for what sustainability means, when it comes to handbags and purses, there are a few things you can do to make choices that are better for the environment:

1. Choosing secondhand bags to prevent them going to landfill 💼

You’d be surprised at the number of bags we get that are in perfectly usable condition, some even new! Every bag you buy from us is extending the life of it and reducing what goes to landfill.

2. Buying from charities who favour sustainable business practices 🌍

Oxfam promotes longevity by investing in community initiatives that pay workers fairly and slow down climate change. On top of that, our Sourced by Oxfam range puts people before profit by compensating artisans fairly for their work.

3. Avoiding overconsumption💰

It may seem contradictory, but we actually want you to keep your bags rather than donating them! Especially when you buy them new, ensure you’re not making an impulse purchase so that you’ll get lots of use out of your bag or purse. By only buying what we’ll use, we avoid contributing to the poor quality craftsmanship that fast fashion requires to keep up with fleeting trends!

All the bags and purses you’ve seen today are available at Oxfam North Street, so stop by if you’re in town. 💚
