Gift Aid
“Gift Aid” is something you’ve probably heard of if you’ve spent any amount of time time in charity shops or done any fundraising. It’s a very important initiative run by HMRC that allows charities to claim back the tax that would usually be charged on that purchase. This means that essentially any money gained through donations and purchases is enhanced and therefore goes further in alleviating poverty. 💞
For your donation to be eligible for Gift Aid, you must have paid income tax or capital gains tax for the financial year Oxfam is looking to claim. When you donate items, you have the option to sign up for Gift Aid, where you will be assigned your own donor number. Simply order your tags to label your donation bags. Then, every item or money you donate is supplemented with 25% of the original value. This is also the case for fundraising where many people can donate at one event. The best part is that it’s at no extra cost to you! 🏷️
To sign up, simply make a Gift Aid declaration by ticking the box at checkout, completing a form, or contacting Oxfam on 0300 200 1300. And don’t worry if your situation changes, you are able to opt out at any time. ☎️
